Here are some of my drawings from "The Drawing Club" last week. I have mixed emotions about drawing from life in this manner, but it could be just my stubbornness. I enjoy the concept of a more relaxed life drawing environment and it allows people to have more fun and experiment more. Buuuttttt... I seem to struggle with having fun at these drawing sessions. I need to relax a little more and just go with the flow. I need to separate the super intense life drawing that I did in Jim McMullan and Stephen Gaffney's classes, and think of this as more of a drawing playground. Don't get me wrong, I'm having fun, but I guess I feel like I should be having even MORE fun. I just don't enjoy it quite as much as those super intense drawing sessions. Even still, I'll keep showing up to The Drawing Club if I can and I appreciate that Bob Kato organizes this night for us artists in Los Angeles.
..and.... John Musker was sitting next to me, I had to make sure my inner geek remained my inner geek.

The atmosphere at Drawing Club is far less serious and maybe you're not being challenged as much as you were in New York. New York was about personal challenge and growth and discovery but, Drawing Club is more about storytelling and the fun you can have with the information the set-up and model provide.
Is it drawing vs. illustration? Is it drawing vs. character design or storytelling?
Maybe I'm wrong about that. I struggle with that stuff too but, I could be wrong about the reasons.
This is a nice post anyway. Your joy and enthusiasm for drawing always make a visit to your blog a pleasure.
these are beautiful sketches dude! great lines and curves!
great sketches -
Marla is one of my favorite models...
don't sit too close to Musker - you'll be the victim of a brutally honest caricature!
I really wanted to go to this session but, sadly, chose the lakers game instead :(
These are super nice phil.

They look awesome to me.
Next time you see John Musker say hi for me.
I'm serious.
More drawer'ings please.
Nice to see your still doing life drawings Phil, I agree with the fun aspect of drawing, too often people take life drawing way too serious, for me it hinders my learning process and stifles my creativity.
Hi Phil! Thanks for the kind words! Love your blog and its so awesome to see you're doing work for Adventure time! I sent you an invite to the blog and to our latest gallery show!
Cheers!
