The ******* *** pilot I worked on has surfaced (and sunk) over on Myspace Videos. It was a great project to work on, but unfortunately the network gods have passed on it. Maybe through some interweb white magic, it can surface again. The pilot is good, but the additional boards done by both Andy Suriano and Stephen DeStefano really made the show something different. Maybe Stephen can post some of his favorite sequences on his blog (don't think he can anymore).... oh yeah... Stephen has a blog!
real quick- I met Stephen while working on the Venture Bros (literally the day his interview in Draw came out). He was kind enough to give a total n00b like me some pointers, and began schooling me in the ways of the cartoon gods of christmas past. He's a great friend, amazing artist and teacher, and does a world class impersonation of Nien Nunb. Go to his blog.
here's the pilot (here was the pilot)...
and a few of my favorite designs..
i hope ya dig,

Phil, bro, these drawings are friggin' gorgeous!!! They really blow me away. Post some more!
Also, it's very true- Stephen does the best damn Nien Nunb impression ever.
wow the pilot is amazing!! where do i sign up? this is too good to stay a pilot.
tomer.
AWESOME!!
Whatup Phil, these designs look great man, also nice clean up line on them. The pilot is cool also, some really cool gags in there. I especially dig the way it looks like it was done in the 90's.
AMAZING!!!!
Why is this not a show???
Seriously man, this needs to get on air!
Soooo rad!
SWEET DESIGNS PHIL! It's a shame they didn't pick it up, the pilot was very nicely done. Good work my man catch you on the flip.
I don't animate, I didn't go to school cause I wanted to make cartoons - it's work like this that has made me a fan, just cause cartoons are awesome!!!
Whoa, the animation is impressive. Plas seems a lot more psychotic than I remember him!
NICE!!!
i think Nien Nunb does a good Stephen DeStefano impression.
Coulda been a contender. The writing is weak, dog. WEAK. Nice art, animation, etc. Writing killed it. Whoever wrote that- should never fuggin' write cartoons again.
Anonymous,
I agree that the writing doesn't match the caliber of the other aspects of the piece. It suffered from what I think were some fairly major cuts. I particularly miss a section of the board that starts slow and sort of gradually progress into Plas's paranoia about being surrounded by water.
I also think that trying to explain Plas's and Archie's relationship, parole officer / parolee, took some time away from strengthening the main Plas / Puddle story.
I've seen far worse pilots..... in fact I've seen far worse episodes of shows in full production.
Thanks for taking time to comment everyone.

I look forward to watching your pilot. Let us know when it's finished.
Bugs,
I think the idea was great.
Why CN was not ready for it is a mystery!
Keep plugging away.... your day will come.
Brooke Kelly say's hello.
D
Great designes and great look. I loved the animation. I just don't think the script was all there. I do like how they incorporated Plastic Man's criminal past though. Thanks for posting this!
Fantastic, honestly :)
Sweeeeeeeet. Nice character designs.
Thanks for making this available for us to watch! Got to see some of Andy's production art awhile ago and I couldn't wait to see it finished.
Someone should make a DVD compilation of "Pilots that never were"...
wow - that was fantastic.
Was this done old school - with pencils and all?
I like the sight gags- really impressive and inventive.
Awesome designs Phil!
damn! really good designs andy!
That was utterly awesome.
I second what the Big Monkey said - top stuff Phil! Muchos happy man here....
Bada Bling!
After such a protracted birthing process, it was a huge bummer that Plas didn't get the greenlight :( But you guys did make fucking awesome cartoon, and that counts big in my book.
This made me happy, yay Plas!
Plasophiles, I've posted some Plastic Man stuff over at my blog. Party continues at my place. Bring beer.
Jeez, that's such a bummer that this show didn't get picked up. Reminds me of the late 80s/early 90s version of Mighty Mouse that Ralph Bashki did (and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible).
I would have been front and center for every episode.
Man this shit is crazy inspiration!! These drawings are amazing!!! I'm gutted I was to late to catch it on the net, it seems to have been pulled!!
unfortunately the day we have to rely on myspace for anything is a sad day indeed. does the trailer work? has it been 'removed?' is it simply myspace not working..?
this cartoon looks wonderful. a credit to the work of mr. Cole.
Hey Phil, did the man put the smack down on the pilot? I can't get it to play. The designs look hot though. Sorry they passed.
Cool! the drawings are all blurry now! How did you do that?
BOO... HISS!
looks like "the man" got to ya phil.
seriously though, what've they got to loose by lettin you guys show this???
say the show gets big hype on the web, then hey, they have a sucessful show they can still choose to greenlight.
i never quite understood why this stuff hasta stay secret. showing it does nothing but benefit everyone.
well, they f'd up by not greenlighting it. i've seen this happen to too many good pilots, it's ashame really. the good stuff gets hidden & we're left with all the s*#t that's on tv. another one bites the dust i suppose. bummer.
sorry, didn't mean to remain anonymous, that last comment was me... jared, & i'm pretty bummed they pulled this pilot.
What the hey? Well your drawings looked sweet Phil, sorry to see them all censored now.
Ach, sorry to see these great drawings go.
The pilot got posted on BoingBoing http://www.boingboing.net/2006/08/27/plastic_man_pilot.html, but unfortunately the link to the vid clip got yanked as well. Alas- however will I see this pilot!?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1J0-sHI0_HA
boo on pixelation! Boo!!
I hear tell that they passed on the pilot because it contained secret coded messages to Al Qaeda.
Thanks Phil, I love the pilot, great designes.
:(
Sorry it didn't work out. I saw some of the art and it looked great. Anyways..look forward to more stuff.
